Pakistan School Based Disaster Management Workshop.

TIslamabad: A meeting was held on Framework for school based disaster management on August 18 in Islamabad. It was organized by National Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with British Council. It was meant to promote save schools and save generations philosophy.

Natural Disasters claimed 220 lives.

Islamabad : NDMA has stated that heavy rain spell in the country claimed over 200 lives and injured 202.The rainfall which occurred this summer caused destruction over a large scale as 2248 houses were damaged during the rainy season this year. On the other hand, Earthquake in KPK left 06 dead,7 injured and 22 houses were damaged.

Thhur disaster claimed more lives.

Mithhi: Hunger and poverty have killed 327 children in Thhur during last 4 months as the death toll reaches 800 during this year. This part of Pakistan has been suffering from widespread hunger as the majority of the local inhabitants are food insecure.

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake jolts were felt in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Islamabad.

The tremors of the earthquake were felt in Peshawar, Haripur, Abbotabad, Mansehra, Swat, Malakand, Mardan, Sargodha, Abbotabad, Charsadda, lower Dir and Khyber agency of the tribal belt.

The metrological department said that the intensity of the earthquake was 5.3 on the Richter scale. Adding that, the department said that the epi-center of the earthquake was at the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Floods resulting from monsoon rains have killed more than 400 people and affected another 4.5 million across Pakistan.

According to CNN, Ahmed Kamal of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said the flooding started on August 22. More than 15,000 villages have been hit by the floods, and many houses have been damaged or destroyed in the past five weeks. Most of those affected by the latest floods — 2.8 million — are in Sindh province, in Pakistan's south, reported BBC News. Nearly 890,000 have been affected in Punjab province and 700,000 people have been hit in the province of Balochistan. The government, however, has not yet appealed for foreign assistance.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province 32 people have died and 26 were injured in several districts, he said, adding that 83 houses were totally destroyed and another 4,200 were partially damaged, he said.

In the northwestern district of Swabi eight Afghan refugees were killed when the roof of their mud house collapsed overnight, police official Mohammad Ali said.

Widespread unemployment in Nowshera due to the floods. Sources claim that there’s an urgent need of clean drinking water, improvement in sanitation system and reconstruction of buildings.
